Notes:

  • Yes, that’s more like it. I got past my block and hit another one because everything I wrote to get around the block was crap. And rather than do yet another attempt, I just punted and moved to another section of the book, and started writing about rituals used in magic. Would you believe a chocolate milkshake as a potion? :)
  • Unbidden, ideas for the fourth novel in this PCIU universe came to me tonight. Let’s recap, shall we? I have most of one novel written and all but the climax of a second one. A third one was in the bare planning phases, as well, when I suddenly realized that book 2 had to be book 1, book 1 had to be book 3, and book 3 had to be book 2. Still with me? Then, even though I haven’t written any of book 2 or finished or rewritten books 1 or 3, I get ideas for book 4. I love my brain. Really. It never ceases to do little things like this. Just to keep me off-balance, I think.
  • Interesting things I looked up: Lyrics to the Animaniacs ‘Countries of the World’ song, lyrics of Tom Lehrer’s ‘The Elements’ song, the Billboard Hot 100 music charts for the year 1981 (The Oak Ridge Boys’ Elvira was the song I picked to be an earworm for my character), and the location of the Mayo Clinic. Believe it or not, that all ties together into two “coherent”(-ish) stor(y-like thing)ies. Trust me.
  • So now I want to rush home and re-outline all four novels. Wait. One cannot ‘re’ something that one has not done. I restate: I want to rush home and outline all four novels. Why do you taunt me so, brain? Why?
